ELCISS aims to enhance language and communication in secondary school children with primary language and communication impairment through narrative/storytelling and vocabulary enrichment.

The London Borough of Redbridge

The London Borough of Redbridge has a population of approximately 245,000 residents. Redbridge is recognised as the 9th most diverse borough in the country, with 38% of the population stating they are from a minority ethnic background.

The Local Education Authority (LEA) funds 17 Secondary School in the borough.

In 2007, across all secondary schools in the borough, the percentage of pupils who achieve 5 GCSEs at A* to C was 61.5%. This is compared to an average for England of 46.7%.

In the same year the percentage of pupils regarded as requiring Special Educational Needs (SEN) with statements or support through School Action Plus was 6.2%. This is compared to an average for England of 8.5%.

Thirteen Secondary Schools in the borough are currently taking part in the ELCISS Project.
